Winn Meat Company’s Austin Team
Provides Caritas Food and Prep

One Wednesday each quarter becomes “Winn’s Day” at Caritas’ Community Kitchen. Winn’s Austin team, Mark Ecton, Michael Pearce and Mario Beltran provide the ingredients and skilled prep to feed up to 450 of the 95,000 hungry patrons that Caritas will serve this year.

Mario sums up his experience:   “The great thing about helping at Caritas is the chance we have to give back and help others in need; this is a very real and humbling experience. I helped with serving lunch to over 400 people.  The people at Caritas are so grateful for all the help they get.” 

Michael enjoys working with Community Kitchen chef Velda Melendez. “We were able to prepare 75 pounds of soup vegetables for chef Melendez.  The look on her face after her walk in is full of prepped carrots, celery, onions and more is priceless.”
"Caritas" is derived from the Latin word for love. In this spirit, Caritas of Austin has upheld the inherent dignity of each person seeking assistance since its inception in 1964.This year, over 20,000 Travis County adults and children will benefit from Caritas’ programs. Caritas is an integral part of the Austin community’s human services network and Travis County's largest non-governmental source of assistance.
